Josephine Baker was born in 1908 in poverty. She began strip tease dancing and found the audiences were responding to her.It was very hard for Blacks to get work so she got on an ocean liner and went to Paris where she auditioned for a Negro Review. She was hired and quickly became it’s star. She danced all over Europe where audiences cared less about her skin color, and loved her skimpy outits. She became an international star. At her peak, she was the hightest paid entertainer in the world.
She bought a mansion in France, learned to speak French and adopted ten children.
