Jada Pinkett-Smith has teamed up Dontsellbodies.org, a non-profit organization dedicated to fighting human sex trafficking in America.

It is reported that “between 100,000 and 300,000 girls in the U.S. are subject to sexual trafficking every year, and few cases of child rape are ever prosecuted.” Surprisingly her daughter, Willow knew this and inspired Jada to do her part in helping victims & survivors.

Jada says, her daughter Willow did her own research and realized that there were young girls her age in this country being trafficked for sex. She was like, ‘Mommy — you don’t know what’s happening!’ I was like, ‘Hold up, pause right there!’ And, she was like, ‘I’ve got to give my voice to this. These young girls out there need me.’ […] I was actually really quite ashamed that I didn’t know about this particular situation in our country, because when you think about human trafficking, you think about it ‘over there.’

On Tuesday, June 19th, Jada and her husband Will visited the nation’s capital for the official release of the US Department of Justice’s 2012 Human Trafficking Report and Secretary of State Hilary Clinton shared the actions that the U.S. government will be “taking to bring human traffickers to justice,” assist victims and encourage other governments to do the same.

“I think it’s especially important in all communities. There are very, very high numbers of African-American andLatinawomen who are trafficked, but that’s not to exclude white women or Asian women. When you talk about modern-day slavery, you don’t see chains,” said Jada. “It’s all about the mind. So, it’s a very layered, complex issue that’s going to take some time for us to figure out how to pull apart. Right now, we just have to get aware.”
