This past Thursday I venture out to Mirage Nightclub (401 West Baltimore St.) to catch The Alley Cats Lounge live music series. Hosted by Sonje Productions and Events 4 Good People, the purpose of the event is to raise the awareness of HIV/AIDS in the Baltimore community.

Using female artist to help with the cause, WISH, a recording artist and songwriter from Baltimore was the first act to lend her talent to the initiative. WISH, with her blonde locks, was backed by the house band “The Alley Cats”.

Early on in the evening the house band, covered the latest tunes. Complete with an auto tune vocoder machine the band belted out lyrics to Michael Jackson’s “I Can’t Help It” to Kanye West’s “Flashing Lights”. Radio One, Inc. owns Persia Nicole, was the mistress of ceremony and she helped welcome the crowd to the vocal prowess of WISH.

Performing in a more intimate set, no dancers, just she and the band WISH informed the crowd that this was her first time performing with such. During her performances set WISH, talked about getting her first record deal with Jive and the inspiration behind her latest project “Me Against Her”. The project is based on the premise of constantly being compared to other artist. Telling the crowd that, “she don’t go for that”, WISH ended her set with her newest single “Use to Love You”.

The Alley Cat Lounge is a summer music series that mixes entertainment with the educational awareness of HIV/AIDS, a disease that has a detrimental effect on the Baltimore community. This is a monthly event that happens the third Thursday of a month through out the summer. The next one will be Thursday, July 19th. For more information you contact Sonje Productions.
