Happy Founders Day to the women and my sisters of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.!
Celebrating the historic establishment of this civic organization Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Founded 105 years ago in Washington DC on the campus of Howard University in January, 1908. Making us Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., the oldest and the very first “inter-collegiate Greek-letter sorority established for, and incorporated by African American women” from around the world of distinguished and diverse backgrounds.
There is so much sorority pride around the world and especially on HBCU college campuses such as Howard University as we take honor to remember the legacy of service, social and economic commitment. The women of AKA through community programs, health organizations churches and schools have made group and individual sacrifices to empower and encourage community growth while uplifting the achievements of all women.
“In honor of Alpha Kappa Alpha’s 105th anniversary, we’ve compiled a list of some of the organization’s famous members, including honorary inductees. From highly-esteemed Civil Rights legends like Coretta Scott King and Rosa Parks, to poised actress to the incomparable Maya Angelou, take a look at some of the extraordinary ladies who are also members of the “pretty girls who wear 20 pearls.”
