Jaden Smith–son of Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith  only request for his 15th birthday is to be emancipated from his parents and live on his own. Will Smith plans to give the gift of freedom to his son.

In an interview with The Sun, Smith says, “(Jaden) says, ‘Dad, I want to be emancipated.’ I know if we do this, he can be an emancipated minor, because he really wants to have his own place, like ooh.”

His teenage son has built quite the resume thus far in his career: He has collaborated with teen pop superstar Justin Bieber, stared in movies, is a clothing-brand entrepreneur, has taken home a Teen Choice Award and has even been romantically linked to reality star Kylie Jenner.

Smith says he grew up with a strict father, so he understands his son’s desire to be on his own. The father-son duo have appeared in three movies together including the new sci-fi flick “After Earth.”

Smith says it mirrors their real life bond, “It’s very similar for Jaden and me — your father’s the biggest movie star in the world, and you’re struggling for your little piece of dignity in this extreme shadow.”

In order for Jaden to really separate himself from his parents at the age of 15, he would need to file court documents, get married or join the military.

Should Jaden Smith be emancipated?
