“Education is our right, that is why we have to fight. Chanted 9-year-old Asean Johnson of Chicago’s Marcus Garvey Elementary School an inner city school that is performing well equipped with computer labs, digital programs special advanced programs and with both passionate teachers and students.

The school is well attended but recently, concerns grew when yet another predominantly African American educational institute was schedule to be closed, mandated by Chicago government official Rahm Emanuel.  Closing would involve thousands of students to be  transferred and relocated to unfriendly territory normally out of their educational district and not always to better schools.

But 9-year-old Asean Johnson with exceptional oratorical skills and genuine concern of his school’s pending  closing refused to go along without a fight  and words that galvanize the community while impacting change.

“You should be investing in these schools, not closing them. You should be supporting these schools, not closing them. We shall not be moved today. We’re going to city hall, we are informing Rahm Emanuel that we are not toys. We are not going down without a fight.”

“It is 90 percent of school closings are African American. This is racism right here. Education is our right, that is why we have to fight.”
