An avid supporter of progress in the Baltimore community and seeing an opportunity to give back to youth that reminded him much of himself, Shawn founded Walks of ART in 2011. Walks of ART is missioned to “implant the relevance of self-expression and individualism in urban youth, by way of art.” Shawn uses Walks of ART as a forum to build upon the cognitive, social and emotional aspects of Baltimore’s youth by using qualified urban art instructors, to educate, mentor and facilitate the various art workshops. Secondly, through Walks of ART, community events are hosted that acknowledge the skills and talents of the more tenured but fairly unrecognized artists within the city.
Shawn has partnered with and facilitated art workshops ,via Walks of ART, with Baltimore City Recreation and Parks, The BELL Enrichment program, the city wide Black Male Identity program and an array other organizations. Shawn’s devotion to the ideal of giving and community service has been acknowledged by the offices of the Mayor and City Council President of Baltimore City and is a recipient of the Black Male Engagement Leadership award. He currently dual-majors in Nonprofit Leadership, and Political Science at Coppin State University.
