Saturday October 30 at 7:30 pm, Soulful Symphony will celebrate its 10th anniversary with a concert at Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall. The symphony is a 75-member orchestra comprised primarily of African American and Latino musicians and was founded by Darin Atwater. The Soulful Symphony performs a myriad of Classical, Jazz, Gospel, R&B, Hip Hop and Motown music and has performed for sold-out houses at both the Meyerhoff and The Music Center at Strathmore in North Bethesda, Maryland.
The 40-year-old composer and conductor was born in nearby Washington DC and studied under the direction of the late Dr. Nathan Carter of Morgan State University as well as at the Peabody Institute.
Atwater made his orchestral debut as both composer and pianist in May 1995 with the National Symphony Orchestra and has traveled around the world including Europe.

The Organization of Black Screenwriters (OBS) will present a series of dynamic workshops designed to help aspiring writers in the development of scripting feature films, television programs, and webisodes , at Howard  University in Washington DC on Oct. 1st – 2nd 2010

The workshops are taught by an expert group of writers who have successfully sold scripts, have screenwriter credits, have scripts that have been produced, completed writing fellowships, and or are readers who are paid by major movie studios or production companies to read and recommend scripts for purchase.

Full Workshop Attendess will also receive a full year’s membership to OBS. Get expert advice from Hollywood insiders such as Yvette Lee Bowser, Gary Hardwick, Issiah Washington and Larry Wilmore.

Workshop participants will receive current techniques with story telling characterizations, and formatting for getting scripts noticed and moved to the top of the pile for production companies, agents and film television writing contests.
