Usher will be releasing a deluxe edition of Raymond Vs Raymond on August 24th with eight brand new songs. If you already bought the album, you can buy just the eight new songs on a separate disc, simply titled Versus.

Friday Ty Pennington, host of ABC’s Extreme Makeover Home Edition, announced that they will rebuild a girl’s home in Northeast Baltimore.

Boys Hope Girls Hope helps teens better themselves through education, community service and more. It’s a group that helps co-parent the teens to live more productive lives.

Fantasia stopped into Baltimore Thursday to meet fans and talk with yours truly. We talked about her upcoming album and tour. She plans to have true soul singers including Raheem DeVaughn, Faith and more on tour with her. Fantasia even sang Happy Birthday to Ira, a listener, on the air.

Fantasia’s “Bittersweet”

Fantasia stopped by Magic 95.9 studios to spend a little time with her loyal listeners and to talk to me about her upcoming album and plans for her upcoming tour. It was great and lots of fun! She is so beautiful and warm and talented and such a genuine person.

You know it’s officially summer in Baltimore with the kickoff of the 2010 African American Heritage Festival at the M&T Bank Stadium. The eventful weekend opened its gates Friday afternoon at 4 and is scheduled to continue until Sunday evening. And it’s FREE before 4 pm.

Vendors from all over the city are stationed here for the weekend. There’s great food, fun, clothing, more fun, art exhibits, rides for the kids, extreme fun and of course LIVE MUSIC! And the Magic 95.9 Crew has FREE giveaways!

Friday’s lineup included the queen of DMV Paula Campbell, Ryan Leslie and Robin Thicke. Ryan Leslie rocked the crowd with “Addicted” and Robin Thicke wooed the ladies with heavy-hitting tracks from his latest album Sex Therapy.

Saturday Patti Labelle guest hosted the concert with performances from Leela James, Marsha Ambrosius (formerly of Floetry), and Fantasia. The legendary Patti Labelle graced Baltimore with her presence by bringing Fantasia on the stage. Both Leela and Fantasia were disturbed by the non-paying concert goers being kept behind a gate and made it their job to include them in the show. Leela walked off the stage and into the crowd hugging fans and kissing babies. Fantasia demanded the gates be removed and told thousands of screaming fans to come up to the stage.

Come out to enjoy the sights, wonderful sounds and delicious smells.

As one of the most distinguished voices in R&B music, Charlie Wilson needs no introduction. The Tulsa, Oklahoma native and former lead singer of the funkadelic brotherly trio, the GAP Band, is now going two for two with his second solo album on Jive Records, entitled UNCLE CHARLIE. The album, which was released February 17, 2009, debuted at #1 on the Billboard R&B/Hip Hop Chart and #2 on the Billboard Hot 200. This album debut was a career high for Wilson, charting higher than any of his previous projects, including the music he recorded with the GAP Band.

What a Beautiful Video!

Tank, born Darrell Babbs, is an r&b singer, songwriter and producer. Although born in Milwaukee, he was raised in Clinton, Md.
Did you know that Tank was an athlete but chose to follow his passion for music? He sang background for and went on tour with Ginuwine. In 2001, he released his debut album, Force Of Nature, which spawned the top 10 R&B single, “Maybe I Deserve.”

A year later, he released a second album, One Man and that single of the same name was the largest single off that album. Later that year he co-produced Missy’s smash hit single “One Minute Man.” In 2007 Tank, Ginuwine and Tyrese formed the group TGT but we didn’t hear too much about them after that.

Tank is best known for his song writing and producing abilities. He has worked with artists such as Jamie Foxx, Marques Houston, Omarion, Aaliyah, Kelly Rowland and Monica. As an associate of The Underdogs, a production team, he has worked with tons of artists and also Dreamgirls, where he had a small role.

Dru Hill is an R&B group that hailed from Baltimore. The members of the group are Mark “Sisqo” Andrews, Tamir “Nokio” Ruffin, Larry “Jazz” Anthony and Antwuan “Tao” Simpson. The group recorded seven Top 40 songs including “In My Bed”, Never Make A Promise” and “How Deep Is Your Love”.

The original members of the group were natives of Baltimore and began singing together at “The Fudgery” at the Inner Harbor where they sang to customers while making fudge for onlookers.

Dru Hill’s big break came came in 1996 when their manager Haqq Islam had them perform at the Impact Convention in May and they were then signed to Island Record’s “Island Black” where they began recording their debut album “Tell Me” that went gold.

The group had songs written by Keith Sweat and Daryl Simmons for the Dru Hill album but the group wrote “5 Steps” and Nokio became the group’s main producer by 1998.

All four members attempted at singing lead but Sisqo made the largest impact with his bleach-blond hair and eccentric style.

The group experience a tumultuous journey including two members leaving the group, Woody and Scola, and legal issues with their former management but kept returning based on requests from loyal fans.

BET Centric announced a new reality show, Keith Sweat’s Platinum House, featuring Dru Hill and premieres on Monday, June 28 at 8 p.m. ET. The premise of the show is to show the group’s journey to make it back to a top spot in the music industry.

Dru Hill’s fourth album, InDRUpendence Day, is set to be released on July 27, 2010. The two singles from that album are “Love MD” and “Back to the Future.”

Baltimore-bred Paula Campbell is a rising R & B star. She has worked with famous writers and producers including Ne-Yo, Warren Campbell and Troy Oliver.

Campbell was raised on the West Side of Baltimore and attended Frederick Douglass High School. She took singing lessons as a teenager and sang in vocal groups with Tamar Braxton and Blu Cantrell.

Her participation in the 2002 Baltimore Idol competition placed her in the top eight. After the competition she was contacted by Rod Lee, formerly of 92Q, and recorded “How Does It Feel” featuring local rapper Tim Trees. That single was a hit locally and hit #92 on the Billboard R & B charts.

She has opened for Kanye West and sang on Fat Joe’s remix of “Lean Back.” She also worked with Oscar-winners Three 6 Mafia by doing the vocal “It’s Hard Out Here For A Pimp.”

In 2007, Campbell won a Glamour Magazine Contest and shot a music video for her single “Ain’t Nobody Stupid” written by Ne-Yo and directed by R & B sensation Ciara. She went on to tour with Ne-Yo that year.

Campbell’s latest single featuring Ne-Yo “Denial” was a hit in the DMV and on the airwaves by popular demand. Her new single “Just A Man” exhibits her vocal ability at its best and is an anthem to single women everywhere.

Campbell is quite accomplished although her journey has been tumultuous. Being a single mother and following her dreams is no easy task.  She has had to spend time away from her daughter to tour and record but she looks at it as temporary sacrifices that will pay off in the end. Her daughter is very understanding and a huge fan of her mother’s work. Paula Campbell has a bright future ahead of her.

Recording artist, songwriter, musician, producer and actress Lauryn Hill turns 35 today. Early in her career she was known as being a member of the Fugees. In 1998 she released The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. The album earned Hill five Grammys and Album of the Year.

Tevin Campbell still has it and belted it out on The Mo’Nique Show. He talks about the life now, the challenges of the business and future plans. Check out the interview below.

R&B soul singer, writer and actress celebrates a birthday today. She was a member of two groups during including Patti LaBelle and The Bluebelles and LaBelle. The 13 time Grammy nominated singer has won two Grammy’s and been inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame. The Philadelphia native also won several NAACP Image, American Music and Soul Train Music Awards.
