Illinois Gov To End Death Penalty After Speaking To Desmond Tutu

Chicago, Illinois — Democratic Governor Pat Quinn says he will be abolishing Illinois’ death penalty; a stance made after consulting with many “people of good faith”.

The governor met with South African activist Desmond Tutu, as well as prosecutors, murder victims’ families, death penalty opponents and religious leaders, according to the Associated Press. Quinn, a supporter of the death penalty “when properly implemented”, made emotional appeals to many opponents of the law who want to prevent the execution of innocent people.
