A man named Adrian Taylor was listed as the film’s “executive producer” and told the NY Post that producers were “furious” with Fanny for not telling them about her unexpected pregnancy until she was four months in. He also said that they believed Fanny would “sully” Mahalia’s name because she was having a baby out of wedlock.

However, reps for the film are claiming Taylor’s comments were “not authorized” and have said sorry to Fantasia, according to EURweb. In a statement, they wrote:

“Double Dutch Productions, LLC. (DDP) extends apologies to Fantasia Barrino for the inaccurate, non-factual and disparaging statements of Ms. Barrino’s reputation, character and image.”

About Taylor, the company has said:

“The comments made in the article by financing broker Adrian Taylor, were not authorized, approved or condoned by the producers of DDP. The information and comments expressed within this article regarding the project were solely those of Adrian Taylor. [He] is not an employee of this production company nor an active participant of any facet in the producing of this film. Taylor has been reprimanded on two previous occasions for speaking to the press about this project.”

“You’re funny! I’m not focusing on that today, I’m talking about the whole movie, the Mahalia Jackson, ’cause I’m tired of people putting lies out about me. My name is all I have and my word is my bond. I feel like if people do things like that, if other producers want to do movies — even with The Color Purple people. Everybody said, ‘Well you missed shows you didn’t do this, you didn’t do that –

Um… *hesitation* I’m not gonna talk about that. I’ll come and talk to you about that on the show.

Also, producers are reportedly upset that she didn’t reveal her pregnancy until she was four months along and instead claimed she was “putting on weight” for the role.

Executive producer of the film Adrian Taylor said: “The family thinks if Fantasia plays the role, it’s going to sully the name of Mahalia. They think she’s got the wrong image, having a child out of wedlock.”

As if having a baby with a married man hasn’t ruined Fanny’s rep already, now it’s ruining Mahalia’s.

Last month, Fantasia told a crowd in Florida that she was pregnant and “this child that I carry, God has given me this child. And I don’t have to hide it from none of y’all.”

The singer hasn’t confirmed that the child’s father is her on-again off-again boyfriend, Antwuan Cook, who was married when they began dating.

Fantasia has one daughter, 9-year-old Zion Quari Barrino.

This means she has to cancel her up-and-coming shows, including Atlanta’s infamous Bronner Brothers International Hair Show this Saturday. Kelly Price will take her place instead.

The lawsuit doesn’t explain why, but the suit is asking for $25,057.02 plus 10% interest per year dating back to May 2009.

Fantasia  nearly lost her home to foreclosure in January 2009, before coming up with the money at the last minute.

She did not confirm that Antwaun Cook is the father but based off of her fear of how people would take the news we can assume it is because she is in fact pregnant by Cook.

Fantasia met Antwaun when he was married, had an affair with him, which led to his wife leaving him, and taking Fantasia to court.

This capped off a huge week for Caesar as her latest album A City Called Heaven was nominated for 2 GMA Dove Awards as “Traditional Gospel Album of the Year” and “Traditional Gospel Recorded Song of the Year” for her single “Favor”. She was a recent recipient of the BMI Trailblazer of Gospel Music award in January 2011. The award show premiered on GMC on Feb. 19 with tributes from Arnetta Murrills-Croom, Beverly Crawford, Lucinda Moore, Ledisi, and Kim Burrell. Caesar is slated to record a new album later this year with Kurt Carr at the helm.

Fantasia Barrino will not be singing when she takes on the role of gospel legend Mahalia Jackson in an upcoming biopic. Instead, producers will use the original recordings and Fantasia will lip sync. Producer Dave LaCouer Simien told the New Orleans Times-Picayune: “I really wanted to be authentic . . . We wanted to make sure if we do it, we do it right.” Simien’s company, Double Dutch Productions, has attained the rights to 18 of Jackson’s songs as well as the approval of her estate.

Mahalia! will tell the story of the singer’s rise to fame and civil rights leadership from an impoverished upbringing in New Orleans. The film production is based on the 1993 book, Got To Tell It: Mahalia Jackson, Queen of Gospel and it will begin shooting in April.
