There are few entertainers who could go toe to toe with Curtis Mayfeild when it comes to awards. He’s got a Grammy, a Grammy Life time acheivement award, and a Grammy Legends award. Also , he’s in the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame Twice. Once as a solo artist, and once as a member of the Impressions. Those are just a few.
I think his work as a movie sound track composer is the most ground breaking. Not only for the great music it was, but also, it opened the doors for other Blacks to do that kind of work.
Curtis was struck by falling equipment while he was checking out a stage before a performance. It left him wheel chair bound. He died about 10 years later. In June 0f 2012, he would have been 72.
