After etching his name into music history with the launch of Motown records, Berry Gordy’s legacy is set to live on as a musical scheduled to hit Broadway early next year.

Starring Brandon Victor Dixon as Gordy and Valisia Lekae as Diana Ross, the production will display the mogul’s various obstacles in building Motown’s iconic brand and molding the careers of the Supremes’ frontwoman, Smokey Robinson and other artists, according to the musical’s official site.

81-year old Gordy will produce the play alongside Tony Award winner Kevin McCollum and Sony Music CEO Doug Morris, and will feature music from Motown’s illustrious catalog of hits, Playbill reports.

“I’m extremely proud to be bringing this story to the big stage,” Gordy said via the musical’s site. “There are so many similarities between the Broadway philosophy and the Motown philosophy.”

“Motown: The Musical” will begin previews at the Lunt-Fontanne Theater on March 11 prior to its April 14 opening.
