The Baltimore Orioles scored 2 big runs in the top of the 9th inning to expand a one run game to a 5 to 2 lead for the Orioles, with the Toronto Blue Jays coming to bat in the bottom of the 9th. Enter the Jim Johnson, last year’s relief pitcher par excellence, to protect a three run lead. The Orioles merely needed to record three outs for the win, but it wasn’t meant to be. Johnson gave up 4 runs on 4 hits in the fateful bottom of the 9th as the O’s stole defeat from the jaws of victory, losing to the Blue Jays, 6 to 5. A painful loss for the O’s.
