Wendy Williams usually knows everything, but even she was surprised that the Tom Joyner Morning Show has returned to New York City. The TJMS is back in New York as today on a brand new station, 103.9. After years on WBLS, Joyner is now back on a New York station, WFAS, which will serve an adult contemporary audience.
“It’s been in the works for a minute,” Tom told Wendy. “We’ve been working to make this happen for a long time and now it’s happening.”
Williams is happy to welcome the TJMS back to New York, but she’s going to be heading to Vegas to celebrate her 50th birthday in an unusual way. She’s going to be doing standup – or as she puts it – stand up, sit down, comedy.
“The Venetian called and they’re giving me 70 minutes on Friday night. Luenell is my coach and my staff are my critics with an anonymous suggestion box. I’m not going do a comedy club that ends up on YouTube before I get to Vegas because it’s a Wendy that people have never seen and it’s extremely blue.”
Williams kicks off a 14-week run of female comics at the Venetian on Friday, July 11th that includes Lisa Lampanelli, Caroline Rhea, Joy Behar, Loni Love and others. Williams is also hosting a beach party at the Tao nightclub at the Venetian the night before.
“I feel so good about turning 50,” Williams says. “It just seems so old when you’re 25 and so dreadful when you’re 35, but I’ve been preparing for the last couple of years in terms of mind, body and soul and career alignment. I’m hosting a nightclub party at Tao that night. So I’m hosting three events and they’re billing it as the world’s largest bachelorette weekend. It’s going to be horndog women and where the women are, that’s where the men are.”
