Shaun King, a racial justice activist who has a large following on Twitter, denied that he told a false story about being the victim of an attack tied to racism and that he lied about his race. King said his mom is White and his dad Black, but on the police report from the incident that occurred 20 years ago, he is listed as White. “Every single person who knows me BEYOND Twitter, beyond trending topics and HIT PIECES, knows I have never lied about my race,” King tweeted. “Out of LOVE for my family, I’ve never gone public with my racial story because it’s hurtful, scandalous, and it’s MY STORY.” Read more.


Rep. Chaka Fattah Pleads Not Guilty in Racketeering Case

Pennsylvania Congressman Chaka Fattah pled not guilty during a court appearance earlier this week after he was accused of racketeering. The charges were filed against him, his wife, and his former staff members last month after they were accused of being connected to an $18,000 luxury car scam. “I understand their desire to come after me … but to take innocent people, to take people in my family and to smear their good name — that says a lot about character, so I think that’s the most unfortunate part about this entire process,” said Rep Fattah. “I haven’t committed any crime.”  Read more.


Medical Examiner in Eric Garner Case is a Former NYPD Cop

It was recently discovered that one of the medical examiners responsible for studying evidence for federal prosecutors in the Eric Garner case was a former NYPD officer. According to sources, Lieutenant Col. Philip Berran, who serves as a U.S. Army pathologist, worked on the case. “When I became a cop I never thought anything would get me out of the police world,” said Berran in his book. “Then I found something more interesting that combines all my skills, policing, law and medicine. My interest in pathology began with my admiration for the work of the New York City Medical Examiner.” Forensic pathologist Dr. Michael Baden, who was hired by the Garner family, said he hopes Berran would realize the correct cause of death: asphyxiation at the hands of a police officer. “I would think that the military person (Berran) would agree that was the cause of death,” said Baden. Former President Jimmy Carter to Go In-Depth About Cancer Diagnosis

Former President Jimmy Carter is slated to open up about his recent cancer diagnosis during a press conference Thursday. When news of his diagnosis was announced, the 90-year-old released a short statement. The press conference will take place today at The Carter Center in Atlanta. Carter initially discovered he had cancer when a “small mass” was removed from his liver earlier this month. Read more.
