THE BUZZ!
Bodycam video reveals chaotic scene of deputy fatally shooting Sonya Massey, who called 911 for help
A Black woman in Illinois, Sonya Massey, called 911 for help for a possible prowler. She ended up being fatally shot n her home by a responding officer.
The shooting took place after an officer asked her to kind of check the pot on the stove, saying we don’t need a fire while we’re here. She went to the kitchen removed the pot and placed it near the sink. But it wasn’t until Miss Massey said I rebuke you in the name of Jesus did things really take a turn for the worse. The officer response, was “You better (expletive) not or I swear to God I’ll (expletive) shoot you in your (expletive) face.” He then pulled his gun and demanded she drop the pot. Massey said, “OK, I’m sorry.” Then this officer while still in the living room separated by a counter pulled his gun and pointed his weapon at her. She ducked and raised her hands. Then he shot her.
Even crazier is that, after that, this officer, discouraged his partner from grabbing a medical kit to save her. “You can go get it, but that’s a headshot,” he said. “There’s nothing you can do, man.”
That officer was indicted and pleaded not guilty. His charges include first-degree murder, aggravated battery with a firearm and official misconduct. He was also fired and is being held in a County Jail without bond. If convicted, he faces 45 years to life for murder. 6 to 30 years for battery, and 2 to 5 years for misconduct.
Biden said. “Sonya’s death at the hands of a responding officer reminds us that all too often Black Americans face fears for their safety in ways many of the rest of us do not.”
