Black Congresswoman McIver Hit with Assault Charge

Ok, so there is another political figure who has caught the eye of this administration based on their actions. Congresswoman LaMonica McIver from New Jersey is facing federal charges for allegedly getting into it with law enforcement outside an ICE detention center earlier this month.
She was out there on May 9th protesting with other leaders, including Newark Mayor Ras Baraka. Things reportedly got heated, and the U.S. Attorney says she pushed or interfered with federal officers. So now she’s charged with assaulting a law enforcement officer.
The feds are saying, “No one’s above the law.” Meanwhile, McIver says this is all political. And that the charges are meant to shut her up and stop her from fighting for the people. And she has seen a lot of support in the midst of all this. The Newark Mayor had his charges dropped and he is in full support of her and hopes she will be vindicates as well. And House Democrats? They’re not having’ it either. Tthey say this is a straight-up abuse of power and they’re ready to clap back.
So we will see what happens next. But this is a sign of the times.
