Black Music Month originated in 1979. Jimmy Carter proclaimed the month of June as Black Music Month to celebrate the wonderful music, the  achievements, births, important timelines, events and to remember those we lost.

1931: Junior Walker of Junior Walker & the All Stars was born. The group was signed to the Motown label in the 1960s, and became one of the label’s signature acts. He passed away in 1995 after a battle with cancer. He was 64 years old. (Photo: Tumblr)
