Today is Wed. June 20th, 2012 and it is the longest day of the year. Meaning it is the day we get the most sunlight. It is the day we refer to as The Summer Solstice.
From this day forward, the days (sunlight) will get shorter.
The word solstice comes from two latin words. SOL which means “sun”, and “SISTERE means “to be still”.
In some cultures around the world it is a religious holiday.
