R&B Divas takes you inside the lives of these music stars as they work, play and struggle to get their lives and careers back on track. Each has had their ups and downs played out in the height of their stardom. Now their working to rebuild their lives and their musical careers. 

Meet The Divas 

Monifah worked with the late Heavy D to get her career and first album Moods…Moments off the ground in the late 90’s.  She’s been rumored to have been one of Queen Latifah’s first female lovers and also is recovering from a seven-year cocaine addiction. Monifah is currently working on her fourth studio album MidNite‘, which is due sometime in 2012. 

Nicci Gilbert was the Lead Singer for 90s R&B Group Brownstone. They were best known for their 1995 hit single “If You Love Me”. Nicci is looking to break into acting and fashion world. She also has her own Artist Development Atlanta based entertainment company No-Ego Entertainment where she continues to produce stage, film and television projects while continuing to mold and develop new talent. 

Syleena Johnson is the daughter of the nation’s first black female police commissioner and legendary soul and blues singer Syl Johnson, will share her journey in music. Most notable for her vocals on Kanye West’s track “All Falls Down,” Johnson will also detail a previous abusive relationship and allow viewers to watch her “fall back in love” with her craft. 

Keke Wyatt made headlines in 2001 after she was arrested for stabbing her husband, but is actively working to clean up her image. She is now the spokesperson for the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence. 

Faith Evan is probably the most noticeable one from the cast. She   became the first female artist to be signed to Sean “Diddy’s” Comb, Bad Boy Entertainment recording company. She is also the former wife of rapper Biggie Smalls. She has since won a Grammy and released a NY Times best-selling book, she will reportedly be the “glue” that holds the cast members together. 

Having all seen the highs and lows of the music business, these ladies know what it’s like to command the spotlight… then see it dim. Now, armed with important life lessons, they’re stronger and wiser. However, this time, they’re coming together to make a difference. The series is eight episodes long and debuts Monday, August 20 at 10PM on TV One.
