President Barack Obama has named Gov. Martin O’Malley as one a co-chairmen on the  panel of state and federal officials for homeland security.

O’Malley will co-chair the Council of Governors with a Republican Governor from Iowa.

In the event of terrorism or natural disaster like Hurricane Sandy, the secretaries of defense and homeland security, executive levels of the National Guard, Coast Guard and the commander of U.S. Northern Command along with several governors have been brought together as defense support to secure America from possible attack of various kinds.
