It seems like every time you turn around there’s another study of black women, black men, black people in general. Well, one can argue that it’s hard to know where you’re going unless you take stock of where you are. To that end, one of black America’s leading publications has set out to survey the state of the black family.

Black families face a constellation of challenges, even as we work to push open doors for our children. Ebony magazine and the W.K. Kellogg Foundation partnered on a survey of the African-American family to identify the issues and attitudes that most affect our progress and outlook today

One of the study’s findings:

In the EBONY-W.K. Kellogg Foundation Survey of the African-American Family a national sample of 1,005 African-American respondents identified job loss and financial insecurity as the No. 1 issue confronting Black families. Read more from Ebony.com.

Ahead of the release of the report, Roland Martin spoke with Ebony editor Kierna Mayo about the results. She and the “NewsOne Now” panel answered the question, “what is the state of the black family.” Check out the conversation.
