Melanie Amaro won the X-Factor! She won five million dollars and a recording contract.
As a child, when Melanie’s parents could not afford to raise her, she was sent to the Virgin Islands where she was raised by both sets of grandparents in the US and British Virgin Islands. Her mother is from Tortola, British Virgin Islands and her father is from St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands.
Melanie was let go by her mentor Simon Cowell early in the competition. Simon realizing his mistake flew to her hometown of Sunrise, Florida and invited her back to the X-Factor competition. In a statement Simon said, “What would the X-Factor have been without Melanie”?
