Stories move forward as the bravery of teachers who protected their students from the Oklahoma City tornado , which claimed at least 24 lives amazes millions. Teachers have been recognized for saving the lives of their students during the devastating tornado in Oklahoma which killed 24 people and injured around 230 people.
As the search efforts began to wind down, many rescuers said they were sure they wouldn’t find any more survivors in the aftermath of the massive tornado. One teacher shielded the young ones from falling debris by laying on top of them, while another took and eight year boy and held him down under her arms.
“We were all piled in on each other,” the 12-year-old told the AP news agency.
“Everybody was crying,” he said. “I was crying because I didn’t know if my family was OK.”
