It was sooooo cold today. I decided to have my son stay home today instead of go in late. The Morning Conversation was all about the various school systems that opted to stay open on the coldest day of the year.
Do you think the schools should have closed today or are we taking it too easy on our kids?
- I think they made the right call, from what I understand some schools are opening late. A lot of these buildings are old and sometimes the heat doesn’t necessarily work. I remember being at Western and it was so cold we had to walk around with our coats on. That’s a problem when it’s 5 degrees outside.
- What we don’t know is that the people that are making the decisions to open or close are not from our region. I’m a teacher and yes I have no problem going to work and if my son didn’t get door to bus service he would be home right now.
- All this talk on the News about, how dangerously cold it is outside. So why Gov. Martin O’Malley, don’t step in and close All Schools In Maryland!!!
Stop worrying about being President, (which you won’t Win) and worry about the safety of the Kids in your State!!!
- They could have closed today. I am a Teacher and notice when children come to school not properly dressed. Keeping the children home would have not been a bad idea.
- Listen you don’t put your kids out in a potentially dangerous situation to try to toughen them up. My kids are at home and Im glad I did. I just got a call from. Balto Co schools that several buses broke down and will not be able to pick up kids. Some kids were standing in the cold for a bus that was never coming. I want my kids soft, let the next man struggle.
- Weather feels like below zero and ppl still saying the children, who walk especially, should still go to school. That’s crazy.
