The rapper was arrested just an hour before he was scheduled to perform at NYC’s Radio City Music Hall last month on the charges. A spokesman for the New York City Sheriff’s Office added DMX, real name Earl Simmons, was wanted for “issues outstanding.”
Some of the said issues included bail jumping, $400,000 in unpaid child support, and failure to appear in court for a robbery claim in Newark, New Jersey. A 21-year-old fan told police he was discussing music with Simmons outside of a gas station in April when he allegedly robbed him of $3,200.
Simmons faced the news of his jail sentence at the Erie County Holding Center on Tuesday. In the past, the rapper has done jail time for violating probation. He’s also been arrested for drug possession, theft, and animal cruelty.
