Workaholics Beware: Extended Work Hours Boosts Risks Of Having A Stroke

A recent study published in Lancet found that the longer people worked, the more likely they were to suffer from a stroke. The study followed over 530,000 patients that had no history of a stroke and over 600,000 that had no history of a coronary artery disease for seven to eight years. At the end, there were 1,700 strokes and 4,800 heart attacks recorded. In accounting for socioeconomic status, age and sex, it was summarized that working over 55 hours meant a whopping 33 percent increase in risk for stroke and 13 percent increased risk for coronary heart disease.
