Linda Weston, the woman responsible for imprisoning mentally disabled adults in a boiler room, has been sentenced to life in prison.

According to the New York Daily News, Weston pleaded guilty in September to 196 counts of kidnapping, racketeering conspiracy, and murder in aid of racketeering, hate crimes, sex trafficking and fraud. The 55-year-old kidnapped six mentally disabled adults and four children in an effort to collect their social security checks and kept them hostage from 2001 to 2011.

She also sedated them with drugs in their food and convinced them to name her as their primary caregiver. She forced some of her victims into prostitution, the report says. Two of her abductors died within the nearly 11-year-period of the kidnapping.

In total, Weston collected $212,000.

The New York Daily News reports:

“When the individuals tried to escape, stole food, or otherwise protested their treatment, Weston and others punished them by slapping, punching, kicking, stabbing, burning and hitting them with closed hands, belts, sticks, bats and hammers or other objects, including the butt of a pistol,” prosecutors alleged.

Some of Weston’s abductors testified in court, claiming Weston, her daughter and others treated them like “zoo animals” and left them in the dark of the room where they could barely stand.

Two of Weston’s accomplices plead guilty and two others are currently awaiting trial. Weston apologized in court and stated, “I believe in God and God knows what happened.”
