The family of the 25-year-old Chicago mother who was stabbed to death riding the subway claim that they found out about their loved one’s death on Facebook. Her relatives and the Cook County’s medical examiner’s office have confirmed that the woman’s name was Jessica Hampton.

“For us to go on Facebook and see this,” her cousin, who asked to remain anonymous, told DNA Info. “We go on there and we see our family lying there like that, is wrong, and it’s not cool.”

As HELLO BEAUTIFUL previously reported, Hampton, who had a six-year-old daughter, was riding the CTA Red Line to the South Side when she was stabbed to death by a man sitting across from her.

“He asked the young lady a question, she said no, and he got up and started stabbing her,” Andrea Patterson, a witness, said. “She fell toward the floor and he slit her neck.”

While people did try to help, there were people taking videos and pictures of the attack. Within minutes images of Hampton’s lifeless body were viewed hundreds of times on social media, yet by early Friday, Facebook had taken it down, DNA Info noted.

“This family was watching that video yesterday, they were looking at the pictures on Facebook that people were spreading, not knowing until 9 o’clock last night it was their loved one they were looking at,” says Dawn Valente, victim advocate told ABC 7 News.

Police currently have a suspect in custody, but he has yet to be charged with Hampton’s murder . Chicago Police are asking that all witnesses to come forward to help shed light on who was behind the attack. While police believe this was a domestic dispute, Hampton’s family said she and the suspect may have known each other, but they did not have a relationship.

In the end, they hope everyone knows that their Jessica was a good person, trying to get her life back on track.

“My sister was working on getting [her daughter] back, trying to get herself together,” Lorel Hampton told ABC 7.

Hampton’s death has also raised concerns about cat calling, violence and abusive relationships, especially against Black women.

We send our deepest condolences to the Hampton family.
