On Friday, First Lady Michelle Obama delivered her last White House speech—and it was powerful. With her voice breaking, she thanked her supporters, stressed the importance of education and her hope that America was proud of what she accomplished over the past 8 years as this nation’s First Lady.

“I want our young people to know that they matter, that they belong,” FLOTUS said.

“So don’t be afraid. You hear me, young people? Don’t be afraid. Be focused. Be determined. Be hopeful. Be empowered. Empower yourself with a good education. Then get out there and use that education to build a country worthy of you boundless promise. Lead by example with hope; never fear.”

The event aimed at honoring the 2017 School Counselor of the Year comes exactly two weeks before President-elect Donald Trump assumes office, CNN noted.

“Do not ever let anyone make you feel like you don’t matter,” she added, “or like you don’t have a place in our American story, because you do.”

She also emphasized the importance for society to deem everyday heroes as important as celebs.

“Because let’s be honest. If we’re always shining the spotlight on professional athletes or recording artists or Hollywood celebrities, if those are the only achievements we celebrate, then why would we ever think kids would see college as a priority,” the First Lady said.

FLOTUS also shared an emotional story about her own father and his hopes for her to attend college.

“That’s the kind of hope that every single one of us — politicians, parents, preachers, all of us — need to be providing for our young people,” Obama said. “Because that is what moves this country forward every single day. Our hope for the future and the hard work that hope inspires.”

She concluded: “That’s my final message to young people as first lady. Lead by example with hope, never fear. And know that I will be with you, rooting for you and working to support you for the rest of my life.”

During her tenure as the First Lady, Mrs. Obama has been a champion to fighting childhood obesity, encouraged girls around the world to go to gain an education and has been a prominent mouthpiece for empowering military families.

This won’t be her last sighting as the First Lady: FLOTUS plans on making final late night show appearance next Wednesday on “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.” Her husband President Obama will deliver his farewell speech to Americans on Tuesday in his hometown of Chicago.

We’ve said it a million times before, but we are definitely going to miss the Obamas in the White House.
