Maryland – Almost 100 Black Boys Buried and Forgotten – Until Now
THE BUZZ!
Over 100 unmarked graves of Black boys, some from the 1800s, were found near a youth jail in Prince George’s County.
These boys were locked up at a place once called the House of Reformation and Instruction for Colored Children. Kids as young as 5 were forced to work, neglected, and when they died – buried without names.
Now leaders like Senator Will Smith and Vincent Schiraldi want to turn that site into a real memorial. Giving these boys the respect they were denied. Including real headstones with real names.
And I can appreciate this. Because history is being erased and swept under a rug. And we cannot forget the past but we must learn from it.
A not so fun fact: Black children are seven times more likely than white children to face adult charges.
