Recently, a case of drug smuggling through the postal service was exposed. A package containing 3 pounds of marijuana was delivered to an office in Parkville MD, signed and accepted. Drug traffickers are always looking for more inventive ways of illegal distribution. “The U.S. Postal Service and private parcel services have become popular shipping choices.”

But in this particular case police were on the scene to seize the package and arrest the recipient (James Buck) who claimed to have mailed the marijuana from California to Baltimore for the use of medicinal purposes.

California along with several other states have legalized marijuana but smuggling is and has always been illegal.

In many cases the U.S. Postal Service, United Parcel Service and other private carriers work with federal agents to break up this type of drug distribution including large amounts of cocaine and cash money.

Here are the statistics since 2007, close to a thousand suspects have been arrested in cases of drug trafficking through the use of mail, and $3.8 million has been seized. It is and ongoing effort to break up mail drug distribution.
