The city’s answer to Baltimore’s homelessness was a bulldozer that cleared the encampment of men and women living in an outside area, known to some as Camp 83. Located under the northbound ramp of I-83, it was there, city employed workers destroyed tents and temporary make shift shelter.

Earlier, prior to the forced evacuation many of the homeless had vacated the area, others joined in protest and due to the diligent effort of non-profit groups some were able to find housing placement at The Belvedere Homes

An advocate with “Housing Our Neighbors”,  Rachel Kutler represented the homeless stood in solidarity Friday as a spokes person and  protester. She had this to say:  “We want to draw attention to the fact homelessness was not solved today, “What the city did was wash their hands of responsibility.”  Baltimore’s 10 year plan was to provide guaranteed situated housing for the city’s homeless. Instead, men and women are  their left hopeless deceived..

With the city’s increased violence rate this makes the streets continuously unsafe for the homeless and a growing negative attraction for the city’s downtown urban renewal.
