LL Cool J headlined the “Kings Of The Mic” Tour, that touch down in Baltimore at the Lyric Opera House. Joining LL was legendary artists: Ice Cube, Public Enemy and De La Soul. The King of the Mic tour was hands down the ultimate Hip Hop experience for the summer. These artists took us to school and proved why their rein remains supreme.
Kicking the night of was De La Soul who performed classics from their debut album “3 Feet High and Rising”. Public Enemy followed with three of their original members Chuck D, Flava Flave and Professor Griff. The newly inducted members of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, set looked like a throw back from the heyday; live band, turntable dj, their dancers/bodyguards known as “The Security of the First World” and, of course, the greatest hype-man of all time Flava Flav kept it all the way live. Ice Cube gave us a through back to his “gansta rap days” before his family films. I now I know why the ladies love cool James because that man has so much charisma and licked his lips a thousands time…whew. It was none stop rapping that man has hits. However my one and only problem with his set was that he did not do “Around The Way Girl”. I was a lil upset but never the less it was a good ole Hip Hop show.
