If my predictions are correct than the rest of 2014 and 2015 will be the reign of the Femcee. With the debut of Sister Hood of Hip Hop, Remy being released and the success of Nikki and Iggy, women are once again becoming power players in the Hip Hop industry. One person who agrees with me is Shylise Simpson the creator of the Female Hip Hop Honors Awards and founder of Under Ground Girls of Hip Hop.com who says, “I definitely feel the change because women are no longer trying to be the token women in a male dominated clique, their creating their own lane”.
Shylise is getting ready for her 3rd Female Hip Hop Honor Awards that will take place on September 13th at the Warner Grand Theater in Los Angles. This year award show will honor TV One’s R&B Diva Michel’le, Da Brat, Oaktown’s 3.5.7 and other women in Hip Hop culture who have made an impact on the genre with their craft. I recently had a conversation with Shylise and she spoke about her own experience in the music industry, creating the award show and her top 3 female artist to watch for. Below is that conversation, take a listen and enjoy.
