The weekend can be an easy time to let yourselves go – our health and our wealth. You don’t need to tell me twice. I would even go as far as saying that sometimes we spend more money on little conveniences during the weekend than we do during the week, where we might be more disciplined.

Let’s commit to doing better with the following quick, easy tips:

1. Carry cash as much as possible

For some reason, our money in the form of plastic usually have us spending more money than we need. When you actually have cash on you, and you see it leave your hands, you feel more pain than when you’re swiping, swiping, and swiping!

2. Have a meal plan

Especially during the weekend, it’s so easy to “treat” yourself a lot with spending unnecessarily, and there is no other area this is easier than food. Decide what meals you’re going to have at home, and what meals you’re going to plan for to be away from home, and stick to the plan!

3. Where possible, bring snacks from home

Whether you’re going to the movies, or taking a weekend getaway via air or road, be sure to bring your own snacks. Better still, bring homemade snacks! Not only will it save you money, it’ll probably be healthier for you.

4. Take advantage of free/low-cost weekend events

It is so easy to stick to the same routine – go to the same restaurants, clubs, etc. But chances are, there’s probably a lot of fun stuff you could be during the weekend that will cost you not nearly as much as your same old routine. I’ve said it once and I’ll say it a thousand times – most of us do not take enough advantage of our local happenings.

5. Put yourself on a weekend budget.

Nobody likes to budget but you know what? It’s good to know where your money is going, and most of us lose out on our good financial habits during the weekend. So why not give yourself a spending limit? Once it’s done, it’s done, and if you don’t go over, put what you have left in your savings account!
