NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal paid a visit to Gainesville, Florida after video of a police officer playing basketball with a group of teens went viral, Fox News reports.

The Inside the NBA host and over 15 million people viewed a dash cam video of Officer Bobby White responding to a noise complaint call on Thursday. Upon arrival, the officer discovered the complaint was regarding a group of teens playing basketball. Instead of chastising them, Officer White could be viewed playing a quick pick-up game with the young adults.

The video was uploaded on the Gainesville Police Facebook page with the message, “We’re going to let kids be kids. We are going to focus on the ones that commit crimes. #HoopsNotCrime.”

The officer’s response was met with positive reaction from people all over the world. One of whom included Shaq, who decided to surprise the kids over the weekend. White, who had promised to come back and play another game with the teens, brought a few fellow officers along with him – as well as the former NBA champ.

Fox News reports:

O’Neal wanted to keep the event as low-key as possible. He called the Gainesville public information officer Ben Tobias requesting the event to be kept under wraps for the sake of the children.

“I became a cop to help people, and these kids will never forget the day Shaq rolled up to their neighborhood and played basketball with them,” Tobias said.

“Without my choice to keep it a secret, I’m not sure this day would have transpired like it did,” he added.

Officer White has been praised for his actions and has a new nickname: Basketball Cop.
