Hands down, Janelle Monae takes the crown for queen of the red carpet. Her look ruled for so many reasons: 1.) Janelle is adorable and looks good in damn near anything, 2.) The look added some much needed fun to the red carpet yet was still elegant and appropriate, 3.) I thought I was tired of seeing Janelle in her signature black and white attire but this look is interesting and creative, and 4.) Most importantly, this look is quintessential Janelle Monae. It is easy for her to own this look because it is in line with what we know of her personality and style. There is a lot to be said about staying true to self in fashion and in life. So often, our favorite celebrities get glammed up for awards ceremonies but, in the effort to make the best dressed list, loose their personal sense of style. Most of them look incredible regardless. But I love it when I see someone on the red carpet and feel their look is an extension of their personality. Way to go Janelle Monae!
One of my least favorite looks from the night was Zoe Saldana. She is gorgeous but I just didn’t get the look.
