THE BUZZ!

Virginia to restrict student cellphone use in K-12 public schools

Big news for Virginia students!  Cellphones might be getting the boot from classrooms.
Governor Youngkin just signed an order to make classrooms more “phone-free.”  This means stricter rules for when and how students can use their phones in school.
The reason behind the change is because officials are worried about students spending too much time glued to screens.  Studies show teens spend almost 5 hours a day on social media.  This can lead to anxiety and depression, not to mention lower grades.

So, Executive Order 33 requires the state Department of Education to team up with partners to set guidelines for restricting phones in K-12 school classrooms by the fall, which would then be implemented by Jan. 1, 2025.
Now phones won’t be outlawed. Schools will figure out ways for students to store them for example using pouches or lockers. And also for a way parents to still reach their kids for emergencies and everyday things.
I’m down for the no phones in class thing. Their not using it for school stuff majority of the times anyway.
