It’s been two decades since Amerie exploded onto the scene with the infectious go-go beat of her 2005 smash hit “1 Thing.” Now, 20 years later, the Grammy-nominated singer, author, and creative visionary is reflecting on the legacy of the song that helped define a musical era, and teasing what’s next.

Amerie is set to bring her signature energy to Baltimore this summer as she headlines the AFRAM Festival in Druid Hill Park. Baltimore fans will get a chance to see Amerie live when she hits the stage at one of the largest African American festivals on the East Coast, AFRAM is known for bringing together music, food, art, and culture in an electric celebration of Black excellence.

Looking Back at “1 Thing”

Released in 2005, “1 Thing” was a game-changer, not just for Amerie, but for pop and R&B radio at large. Its propulsive percussion, produced by Rich Harrison, helped introduce a wider audience to Washington, D.C.’s signature go-go sound. “That beat was bold,” she reflects. “It made people pay attention.”

On New Music and Evolution

After stepping away from the spotlight to focus on writing and motherhood, Amerie is back in the studio. She hints that fans can expect something new later this year.
