Baltimore’s Own Gabby Samone Reflects On Her American Idol Journey

Baltimore-born singer Gabby Samone has been captivating audiences for years, but her appearance on American Idol introduced her talent to a national stage. In a recent interview with Magic 95.9’s Ryan Da Lion, Gabby opened up about her experience on the show, the lessons she learned, and what lies ahead.
Gabby described her American Idol journey as both challenging and rewarding. “Man, it was long,” she laughed, recalling the extended periods in Los Angeles for filming. Despite the demanding schedule, she values the connections she made. “I met so many amazing people. I’m still friends with them.”
Beyond the competition, Gabby experienced personal growth. “I learned about my artistry, who I want to be as an artist and a person,” she said. “I felt a shift in my career. I can reach so many more people now.”
Initially unsure if the show was right for her, Gabby was surprised to make it to the Top 7. “I didn’t think American Idol was a show for me,” she admitted. But her authenticity resonated with viewers. “I gained new fans and a whole new demographic of folks supporting me.”
After her elimination, judge Lionel Richie shared words that stuck with her: “You have a career. Don’t give up. The real work begins now.” Comparisons to Jennifer Hudson further boosted her confidence. “Looking at Jennifer Hudson gives me confidence I’m stepping into something new,” Gabby said, noting Hudson even gave her advice before the show.
Now back in Baltimore, Gabby is embracing her roots. “Everywhere I go, I rep Baltimore,” she said. With new music and live shows on the way, she’s focused on the future. “I have so much trust in God and the gift He gave me. I can’t stop now.”
