An employee at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and School in Anne Arundel County has been charged with embezzling more than $10,000 from the church’s payroll system.

Lori Kirschner Griffith, who served as the church’s payroll coordinator, is accused of diverting funds between December 2024 and February 2025. According to charging documents, church leaders discovered irregularities in payroll records and reported them to police.

CBS Baltimore reports that an investigation revealed that Kirschner Griffith allegedly increased her own pay by adding unauthorized funds to her paychecks and concealing the transactions within before- and after-school payroll accounts. As the church’s sole financial officer, she had full control over fund distribution since starting at St. Paul’s in 2023.

She now faces charges including embezzlement, theft, and a theft scheme.
