THE BUZZ!

So some not so good news for Maryland’s workforce. According to the Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics, MD lost 8,500 jobs in June, and most were federal government jobs. In fact, it was the biggest drop in almost 30 years. There was an increase of 1,200 state government jobs though.

This is significant because we know there are a lot of government workers here in Maryland. With over 230,000 people employed, we are only second to DC.

There is some good news tho. The private sector added about 5,200 jobs. And the state says they are investing in support resources for residents who have been impacted by the layoffs.

But these government layoffs are affecting a lot of people. And a lot of them live right here.
