Maryland schools will teach math differently this year. Here’s what to expect.
Maryland parents, if your child’s math homework had you feeling like you needed to go back to school, there’s good news.
Elementary and middle schools are changing how they teach math this year. Lessons will be simpler, cover fewer topics, and give students more time to practice.
Schools will also spend more time on the basics, like adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing.
The changes come after only 27% of Maryland students passed the state’s math test last spring.
High school math isn’t changing yet. And Baltimore City schools have guides available to help parents understand what their kids are learning.
Hopefully, this means less confusion, better grades, and fewer homework battles at the kitchen table.
