The U.S. and five other countries have reached an agreement with Iran that would essentially freeze that country’s nuclear program for the next 6 months. During that time, Iran has also agreed to monitoring of its nuclear facilities.

Not everyone thinks the accord is a good idea. Some are calling for continued economic sanctions against Iran, and Israel’s prime minister, whose country has long been at odds with Iran, called it “a historic mistake.”

Others are calling it an important step forward. U.S. Air Force Lieutenant General Ronnie D. Hawkins talked with NewsOne Now about the merits of the pact. ”It enhances greatly the ability to monitor what’s going on in Iran,” Hawkins said. “No matter how much we had sanctioned before, that ability just was not there.”
