“Just looking at Merrick, he’s a careful, thoughtful judge. He shows respect of people. There’s a compassionate side for people. He’s shown the ability to rule against the government. He’s ruled in favor of criminal defendants against the government. He’s shares the President’s views and mine. He’s going to be a great Justice.”
On rumors that he’s pro-police:
“When it comes to criminal justice policy, he’s in a good place. Although he was a strong law enforcement guy, he did it in a way he showed compassion for both sides.”
