Grammy nominated pioneer Slick Rick is one of the most iconic voices in hip hop and it’s no secret that the ever-changing genre still recognizes his influence. Everyone from Nicki Minaj, J. Cole, Big Sean and Amy Winehouse has used his music quickly making Slick one of the most sampled rappers of all time.
He talks to the Tom Joyner Morning Show about Victory, an 18-city tour to celebrate his U.S. Citizenship.
On being in prison for allegedly self-deporting himself:
“I was detained about a year and a half. I maintained one day at a time. You’ve got to know the rules — go unnoticed.”
On the rumors about the infamous patch:
“I lost my eye when I was 18 months old. It took a while to figure out what to do. Instead of getting contacts or cosmetic surgery I just slapped the patch over the eye.”
