Update: A New Mpox (Monkey Pox) Strain Detected – First of its Kind in The U.S.

A more severe strain of mpox has been detected in the U.S. for the first time
Now earlier this year, the World Health Organization declared mpox (previously known as Monkey Pox) a public health emergency of international concern. But get this, there is a new strain of mpox that has popped up in the U.S. It’s a strain that has never been seen here before. And allegedly it was picked up by a traveler who came from East Africa.
Don’t freak out though! The CDC says most people aren’t at risk. They claim that the strain presents a low risk to the general public. “Casual contact, like you might have during travel, is unlikely to pose significant risks for transmission of mpox.”
The agency advises people to avoid close contact with infected people and surfaces and objects they may have come in contact with, such as clothing, bedding and toothbrushes.
Mpox causes a rash that can manifest on the hands, feet, chest, face or genitals. Symptoms may take 3 to 17 days to show up.
