Its Art: Banana Duct Taped To a Wall (Sold For Over $6 Million)
THE BUZZ!
Crypto investor pays $6 million for a banana — and plans to eat it
Okay, so you don’t have to be an art collector to know that some pieces of art can be very expensive. And there are people who are willing to pay top dollar for certain items.
What piece you might ask? How about the banana duct taped to a wall piece. Yes, the artwork called “Comedian” was bought by a crypto investor for over $6 million. Paid in full with Crypto currency.
The banana duct taped to a wall debut at Art Basel Miami in 2019, priced at $120,000. The piece went viral over social media and attracted such massive crowds that the work had to be removed at the time.
But get this. The banana was not really included in his purchase, since it will spoil and need to be constantly changed for display. So for his $6 million, this investor will get a roll of duct tape, instructions on how to “install” the banana. And a certificate of authenticity guaranteeing it as an original work.
So what does the new owner plan to do with the banana, eat it. He said in a statement, it will all be a part of this unique artistic experience, honoring its place in both art history and popular culture.”
I’ve heard of the $6 million dollar man. Now a 6$ million dollar banana, with duct tape.
This is America! This is Art.
I’m about to start taping everything to the wall and see what I can get for it.
